IOV World General Assembly was held in the United Arab Emirates. In the Emirate of Sharjah, a few steps from Dubai, 52 delegations from different nations of the world met from 8 to 12 March to give voice to the cultural heritage of the different peoples of the earth.
On the agenda IOV World General Assembly and the consequent elections of the new Executive Committe who will lead for the next few yearsthe NGO born in 1979 and today recognized in Consultative Status with ECOSOC, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, with the main competence on relations and international economic, social, cultural, educational and health issues, and the coordination of the economic and social activity of the United Nations and its various related organizations.
Last elections, which were held in 2016 in Bergamo, had seen the nomination of the President Ali Abdullah Khalifa from Bahrain, the Secretary General Fabrizio Cattaneo from Italy and the two Vice Presidents, the Austrian Hans Holz and the Chinese Emma Chen Ping.
The Sharjah elections led to the reconfirmation of the Executive Committee made up of President Ali Abdullah Khalifa from Bahrain, Vice President Prof. Emma Chen Ping from China, Finance Director Hendrick Huijser from Holland, Secretary General Fabrizio Cattaneo from Italy. Two new entries: the Vice President Guenter Lippitz from Austria and the Secretary Jarmila Mrnustikova from the Czech Republic.
Sharjah IOV World General Assembly was not only an occasion for elections, but above all for getting to know new cultures and meeting people from all over the world and belonging to different generations.
In fact, the IOV Youth World Congress was also held which saw the participation of boys and girls from all over the world in love with folklore and eager to voluntarily donate their time for the conservation and promotion of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the world.
52 world delegations thus crossed paths in the United Arab Emirates in a riot of colorful clothes and different hairstyles, among particular musical instruments and dialects that were difficult to understand. The result? A brotherhood global respecting the beauties of each nation, from Indonesian clothes created with spices to Hungarian dances, from the colorful skirts of Panama to the ceremonial dance masks from Greece.
