Historical note

IOV’s current chronology numbers the Mödling gathering of 17 to 21 September 1980 as the first World General Assembly. A later anniversary review calls the same event the organisation’s first working conference; both records are retained here rather than silently choosing one description.

IOV’s institutional history records that the meeting elected Dragoslav Dević as President, Alexander Veigl as Secretary General, Philip Durizy as Vice-President, Etienne Vankeirsbilck as Under Secretary and Erik Nilsson as Financial Officer.
