INNA LUPPA – Doll maker, Ukraine

My name is Inna Luppa. I was born in Kyiv, where I have lived to this day. During my senior years of school, I developed a dream to study art. Therefore, in 1990, after passing my exams, I enrolled in the Kyiv State Art Institute, which was later renamed the National Academy of Arts and Architecture of Ukraine, where I received a degree in art history upon graduation. I continued my studies in the postgraduate program at the M. T. Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folkloristics, and Ethnology, but I left after a year of study and successfully passing my PhD exams due to family circumstances. I worked for eight years as a methodologist at the State Methodological Center of Educational Institutions of Culture and Arts of Ukraine under the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine.
I began engaging in creative work in 2010, starting with decoupage. I learned most of the artistic techniques used in decoupage, decorated over 1000 wooden and ceramic blanks, creating interesting decorative items. I conducted individual and group master classes.
In the same year, 2010, my fascination with dolls began. The transformation of twisted scraps of fabric into a doll before my eyes thrilled me. I made dolls using all the patterns I could find freely available on the internet. Then came the understanding of studying the Ukrainian knot doll. Based on my research, I study the structural foundations of dolls and create replicas, striving to achieve my own style and signature. I try to improve my work by adding embroidery and elements of traditional folk costumes.
Since 2020, I have been participating in exhibitions of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine and the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. I am also a participant, laureate, and winner of Ukrainian and international exhibitions, festivals, and competitions. I have awards and diplomas. My dolls are in museum and private collections.
In August 2021, by the decision of the Certification Commission of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, I was certified as a “FOLK MASTER”. Since January 2024, I have been a member of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine.
