Vittorio De Seta International Competition of ethnographic documentaries 2018

Event

Firstly, with this competition, the FITP, as an institution that protects and enhances the ethnographic heritage, intends to insert itself in major international events in which the documentations and documentaries of visual anthropology are examined, whose topics fall within the interests and institutional functions of the same FITP
To achieve this objective it was necessary to establish a specific review that could serve as a model; for this reason it was dedicated to Vittorio De Seta with the aim of enhancing the figure of the director and the filmmaker who has always shown particular ethno-anthropological interests. Therefore, the Italian Federation of Popular Traditions has established an annual international competition for the production of ethnographic documentaries.
The competition-review aims to promote and disseminate, through the audiovisual media, the anthropological knowledge of the popular cultures of the various Italian and foreign communities and, therefore, pursue the objective of protecting and enhancing the above mentioned cultures as inalienable heritage of the different local identities. Moreover, in the debate of the demo-ethno-anthropological disciplines, the competition-review has the function of contributing to better define the important role of visual anthropology as well as identifying the current systems and processes of re-functionalization of “popular traditions”. “still vital in the different socio-cultural realities.
