From July 28th to August 2nd, the city of Nova Petrópolis will once again be the meeting point for the cultures of the continent during the III IOV Assembly of the Americas, one of the most significant cultural gatherings in our recent history.
The event will take place within the official program of the 53rd edition of the Nova Petrópolis International Folklore Festival, reaffirming a solid and visionary partnership that is now 15 years old. It was in this city, typical of German colonization, with its half-timbered architecture, flowery gardens and strong community spirit, that a historical landmark was born: the Nova Petrópolis International Folklore Festival became the first festival in Brazil officially accredited by IOV Brasil.
As part of the official program of the III IOV Assembly of the Americas, the III IOV Scientific Conference of the Americas will also take place, expanding the academic and strategic scope of the continental meeting.
Aligned with the theme “Heritage in Motion” and the motto “Expressions that Sing and Enchant the Americas,” the Conference will bring together researchers, scholars, cultural managers, and experts from member countries to deepen reflections on intangible cultural heritage, safeguarding processes, the production of scientific knowledge, and the contemporary challenges of preserving popular cultures on the continent.
The simultaneous holding of the III Assembly and the III Scientific Conference reaffirms that tradition and science go hand in hand. Because preserving is celebrating, but it is also researching, recording, systematizing, and planning for the future.
The simultaneous holding of the III Assembly and the III Scientific Conference consolidates the event as a complete space: institutional, diplomatic, cultural and academic, where tradition and science go hand in hand, as it should always be when we talk about culture with responsibility.
The Conference will broaden the technical and scientific scope of the event, consolidating the Assembly not only as a festive and institutional space, but also as a qualified forum for knowledge production, intellectual exchange, and the development of guidelines for the future of folklore in the Americas.
All updates regarding the III IOV Americas Assembly and the III Scientific Conference, which will take place in Nova Petrópolis, will be published on the portal.
