Yesterday marked the concluding ceremony of another successful folk arts festival in Brazil. The elaborate festival represented the diverse cultural heritage of the Americas with the participation of forty-three professional folk art groups from seven South American countries. The groups included two thousand dancers, performers, and instrumentalists who showcased aspects of their heritage over the course of the two weeks. The festival was concluded in a ninety-minute street art celebration on the main road of the city amidst cheering crowds. The celebration was attended by the Mayor of Nova Petropolis and the President of the International Organization of Folk Art (IOV), Poet Ali Abdullah Khalifa.
The Organization’s branch in Brazil cooperated with many civil societies in the city of Nova Petropolis to host the groups and organize this annual festival, which continued with remarkable success. Khalifa commended the efforts put forth in the organization and logistic support of the festival, which facilitated the outstanding performances put on by the groups and the festival’s popularity. Khalifa also expressed his gratitude to the Brazilian authorities for their support of IOV Brazil, adding that the IOV Presidential Office in the Kingdom of Bahrain would like to highlight Brazilian heritage in the Organization’s international activities stage.
