It is with great sadness that the Executive Committee of the International Organization of Folk Art (IOV) announces the death of its prominent member Zdeněk Pšenica, chair of the Folklore Association of the Czech Republic, “a nongovernmental organization made up of dancers and musicians active in the country´s Folk ensembles,” on July 9, 2019.
Zdeněk Pšenica was a member of our organization since 1991 and a part of a large network of dedicated artists, performers and academics, coming from all around the world, who have worked tirelessly together for years, each promoting their cultural heritage. Together they form a tight knit community and a family.
They share many moments of laughter, togetherness and inspiration and interact with one another in one event after the other.
Zdeněk was an important part of this circle and a member who put in so much effort to protect the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Czech Republic.
It is what makes it difficult to say goodbye and our loss so great.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to all of Zdeněk’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed in our organization and we will forever be proud to call him one of us.
Zdeněk Pšenica funeral will be held on July 13, 2019 at 6 pm in the church in Zubři, in the Czech Republic.
