Péter Markó

Péter Markó, academic, born in Sárvár, Hungary in the year 1953. He completed his secondary school studies in Szombathely and worked for three years as a lather. He was admitted to the Dániel Berzsenyi Teacher Training College during his military service and he graduated as teacher and andragogist. He received his diploma as a sociologist at the Loránd Eötvös University of Sciences. From 1976 to 1998 he was the deputy director at the cultural centre of the town of Sárvár and he was responsible for cultural affairs. He was the president of the General Assembly of Vas county from the year 1998 to 2006. In the period of 1998-2000 he was the chairman of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community. Péter Markó was the European Secretary General of the International Organisation of Folk Art (IOV) from the year 2001 and the Secretary General for Eastern Europe from the year 2006, at present he is the chairman of the Hungarian section of the IOV. He is a member of the Hungarian Sociological Association and the chairman of several other organisations. From October 2006 to 2017 he worked again in Sárvár at the Nádasdy castle, today he is retired. He regularly publicises in professional journals and published five books so far.
