The International Folk Fest was born in the year 2005 from an idea of the Associazione Gruppo Folk I Nuraghi di Sestu that starting from the assumption that that of traditional musics and dances represents “a fundamental element of the intangible cultural heritage of our town and the island of Sardinia, constituting also an important factor of promotion – both in Sardinia, in Italy and in the world – of the image of our town, producing, moreover, significant spin-offs in terms of tourism promotion, fostering, moreover, relations between different generations, bringing a wide audience closer to the enjoyment of cultured music and enhancing the rich local tradition, as well as marking with their musical participation the various events and social happenings of the community in which they insist.
The purpose of the event to publicize and popularize our cultural traditions and at the same time forge a relationship of friendship and cooperation with various international cultures with groups from all over the world with folkloric performances of traditional dance and song, where the guest groups will socialize, involving the population with their songs and dances.
Also participating will be the Folkloric Associations with which special situations of esteem, friendship and appreciation have been established in recent years for the work done in the sphere in the enhancement of folk culture related mainly to singing to traditional dances and music.
In order to ensure an effective and qualitative outcome of the event, it is planned to entrust the conduction of the same, to two presenters, one male and one female of proven and undoubted professionalism and experience in the field, chosen from among the most valid and well-known of the island’s artistic scene.
This project, having a strong connotation of tourist attractiveness, also has the objective, to increase the influx of visitors to the area in question, favoring, therefore, consequent situations of economic and employment growth.
It should be noted again, that the entrance to the shows will be totally free, in order to encourage maximum attendance and ensure a pluralistic dissemination, participation and enjoyment of all the proposals in the program.
